Law, legal process must be respected

Minister for Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam was right when he reminded Singaporeans against mob justice (Shanmugam: Gap in CBT law to be plugged soon; Feb 6).

The maturity of a people living in a country ruled by law is shown by their respect for the administration of justice.

We should remember that taking the law into our own hands is unconstitutional, and must resist the notion ofmob justice.

If laws need to be changed, the way to do it is by electing honest and justice-minded people into Parliament, the proper place for laws to be made or amended.

If Members of Parliament err in their duty or try to influence the administration of justice, they risk not getting re-elected.

Those who govern also have to pay heed that the laws are just, and that access to legal process is not hindered due to a lack of means or the nature of the offence.
