Heighten safety awareness in young

It must be noted that a minority of youngsters are prone to making impetuous decisions. The advent of smartphones also presents a myriad of hazards (Teen fell after ledge gave way under his weight; Feb 25).

It is imperative that greater consideration be put into ensuring safety in public areas, such as through warning signs.

However, the design of public facilities will not always be immaculate.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to heighten self and safety awareness among adolescents, enabling them to assess risks and make sensible judgment calls in their daily lives. We cannot assume that safety awareness is inherent in all of us.

Parents need to take a more proactive role in reminding their children about possible dangers that lurk beneath simple everyday acts.

Friends must also advise one another and highlight safety considerations when necessary.
