GRCs still essential

While the recent Bukit Batok by-election shows that a minority candidate has succeeded, this came about only because each candidate had supporters of different races rallying around them ("Rethink need for GRC scheme" by Mr Tan Peng Boon; Tuesday).

There was still a multiracial platform among the party members of each candidate.

We can't rule out future candidates playing the race card to get votes in elections down the road.

Hence, we should only tweak the group representation constituency (GRC) scheme, not abandon it altogether, to ensure that there will be minority-race representation in Parliament.
