The move by the Singapore Table Tennis Association to promote local young talent is certainly welcome news for Singaporeans aspiring to be future world champions ("Association to promote local young talent"; yesterday).

The association needs to train a substantial pool of local players, with the guidance of former world champions or world-ranking players who are also good coaches. Feng Tianwei could be one of them ("Feng Tianwei axed from national squad" and "News of Feng's exclusion shocks sports fraternity"; both published yesterday).
