A fine is necessary to deter people from misusing parking spaces meant for drivers with disabilities ("Cab leaves no room for wheelchair user"; Tuesday).
But given Singaporeans' affluence, $100 or $500 is not sufficient to deter irresponsible parking.
People are able and prepared to pay the fine.
Making things more "inconvenient" would be more appropriate (on top of the fine and demerit points, if applicable).
Unauthorised vehicles parked in spaces meant for drivers with disabilities should be immediately towed away.
I have seen this being done in other countries.
