Ensure education policies support economic needs

Recently, there have been two separate discussions which are closely related.

The first is the talk of the much needed economic transformation and the second is the need to change our higher education system to meet the aspirations of the young.

We must remember that our education system, especially at the higher level, should, first and foremost, serve the economic needs of the nation.

Thus, as we decide which economic sectors to pursue in the future, we should tailor our education system to produce the right type of graduates who can be gainfully employed.

While it is important to recognise the many aspirations our young may have, being able to find employment in Singapore when they graduate should be the most important consideration.
