Don't let parking crunch get worse as population grows

I sometimes drive my son's car.

Each time I am out with the car, I face problems finding a parking space - be it at an open carpark in the heartland, at shopping malls, places of interest or hospitals.

Parking problems are likely to become more severe soon, in view of the Government's push for a car-lite Singapore, and its policy of having fewer parking spaces (URA sets limit on carpark spaces at Marina Bay site; Aug 19, 2016).

Carparks at housing estates that were built some two to three decades ago had enough spaces to cater to the population of the estate at that time.

However, Singapore's population has been increasing rapidly over time, with a concomitant larger vehicle population.

There is surely a need to provide more parking spaces.
