I am heartened by the new Proximity Housing Grant ("20% of resale flat buyers seek proximity grant"; Oct 31).
It enables different generations of families to live close by, thereby enhancing family bonding and caregiving support in Singapore's increasingly ageing population.
I also look forward to the implementation of the Fresh Start Housing Scheme, which helps second-timer families living in rental flats to own two-room flats on shorter leases.
Some of these families also face multi-faceted problems, beyond their housing issues.
It is, thus, necessary to customise the assistance to meet the needs of each family.
Social workers and grassroots leaders can be part of the network to provide social and intervention programmes to enable these families to improve their lives.
And when the finances of these families improve, I hope the Government will provide the option for them to extend the lease of their two-room flats under this scheme.
