Bouquets: Great care in grandma's last days

Great care in grandma's last days

My family and I sincerely thank the doctors and nurses of Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Ward 83 for the attentiveness, care and concern shown to my late grandmother.

It was because of their care that my grandmother, who suffered from cancer, was able to spend her last days in peace and comfort.

Palliative care comes with many demands, and physical and mental challenges.

From doctors having to break the news of patients' conditions to their loved ones, to nurses patiently feeding, changing, bathing and motivating the patients, the amount of empathy and passion required is mind-blowing.

We are grateful to the staff at Ward 83 and we hope that they will continue doing wonderful work.

Service that doesn't miss the boat

On March 17, my family and I were to board the Holland America cruise ship, The Volendam, at the Singapore Cruise Centre.

Unfortunately, we were late and missed the ship.

In my haste, I also lost my cellphone.

Then, cruise centre employees Jody Vasu and Vick Rajagopal came to our aid and salvaged our trip.

They helped us to get airline tickets to the next port, Koh Samui, so we could catch up with the ship.

They also found my cellphone, which had fallen onto the kerb.

They thought we were at the airport and went there, despite the rush hour, to look for us so that they could return the phone.

Eventually, they found that we were staying the night in Singapore and met us at our hotel the next morning.

They were amazing and wanted nothing in return.

The next morning, we took a taxi driven by Ms Nancy Tay to the airport.

Since we had some time, she took us around the city and was a fantastic tour guide.

She even bought some cookies for us to take on our flight.

Jody, Vick and Nancy were extraordinary. I have never encountered this kind of commitment to customer service.

My family and I cannot wait to visit Singapore again, and we are encouraging our friends to visit, too.
