Bouquet : Kind cabby who went the extra mile

Kind cabby who went the extra mile

On the evening of Feb 22, I left my laptop, along with all my files and notes, on bus service 972.

After a few calls to SMRT, my belongings were found and I was told to collect them at Bukit Panjang bus interchange.

I got into a taxi and the driver, Mr Phee Yon Chen, agreed to take me there, despite having to change shift in Bedok.

When we arrived at Bukit Panjang LRT station, we found that the bus interchange had relocated.

I assured Mr Phee that I could find it on my own, but he offered to help, and even exited his vehicle to ask passers-by and shopkeepers where it was.

We then discovered that the bus interchange was in Woodlands.

Mr Phee took me there and accompanied me to the office so I could retrieve my belongings. He then offered to take me back to my home in the east.

I was very touched by his actions. He did all this not to earn extra money - in fact, he gave me $10 off my ride - but out of the kindness of his heart.

I commend SMRT for its swift service. But, most of all, I thank Mr Phee for his kindness, determination and willingness to help me. Without him, I would not have been able to get my belongings back.
