Boost sports' S'porean core

The desire by the Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF) to build a Singaporean core should be the way forward for Singapore sports ("SSF wants S'poreans to put wind in sails"; Sept 24).

Many sports associations today rely on expensive foreign coaches, with no remarkable results to show.

If they do continue to rely on foreign coaches, it should be made mandatory that the assistant coach be a Singaporean, so that there will be a transfer of technology, know-how and skills for the future of the sport.
