Better to penalise SMRT top brass for service lapses

It is not fair for SMRT workers to be penalised for something as unpredictable as the "smoothness" of transport service ("SMRT to link more of staff bonus to bus, rail ops"; Feb 18).

Even the best operators in the world cannot guarantee that their trains or buses will not break down after all that is humanly possible is done to maintain them.

It would make more sense to tie the bonuses of the SMRT chief and other top brass to any breakdowns, as they are the ones who implement standard operating procedures and operations plans.
