There needs to be a more level playing field when it comes to applications for HDB flats.
Currently, applications for new HDB flats being built in mature estates are open only to couples, families and seniors.
What about singles? They, too, need the convenience of a mature estate.
Couples and families who need to live close to their parents in mature estates should stand in queue like everyone else and allow general balloting to decide if they get a flat. They can then tap the Proximity Housing Grant.
With the grant, they may even consider buying a resale flat instead. There are more than enough flats in the resale market, which is currently very stagnant.
The HDB should also consider building only inter-generational flats in the new towns.
