Autopilot systems a promising option

Autopilot systems are a good option for drivers.

There are transportation needs that they could fill, including ferrying people who are unable to drive, such as the injured or the elderly.

Most importantly, autopilot systems have been involved in fewer accidents compared to human drivers. According to Tesla, the crash that killed Mr Joshua Brown ("Tesla car on autopilot crashes, killing driver"; July 2) is the first known fatality in about 200 million km where its autopilot system was activated, compared to a fatality approximately every 96 million km worldwide for normal cars.

The autopilot system is a new development. If the safety standard is already so commendable, it is sure to improve much further in the near future.
