Apply social media lessons to real life

The use of social media is a widely contentious issue (Use social media to help save lives by Jacelyn Chia Yee Fang; Voices of Youth, Feb 1).

When put to good use, it can connect the lives of many. But on the other end of the spectrum, it can bring about undesirable outcomes.

To ensure that social media and the Internet are beneficial, more should be done to ensure that users are mindful of using them well at all times, instead of using them as a platform to hurt others.

For example, schools could do more to educate children on the importance of using social media effectively.

Although many schools are already doing this, it could be made such that students will ultimately apply their knowledge in real life, instead of going through the motions and treating them as mere lessons to sit through.
