Aggressive names befit attackers, not defenders

Cyberspace must be defended from cybercrime, just like our physical living environment must be defended from physical crime, as expounded by Oscar Newman in his book "Defensible Space".

Therefore, I disagree with Dr Sunny Goh's suggestion that the term "cyber defenders" be changed to a more active and positive term, such as cyber warriors, commandos or fighters (Choose name that shows cyber enemies we mean business; March 21).

Deterring criminals from committing crimes should be the main aim of the defenders.

The more aggressive terms suggested are more appropriate for attackers, not defenders.
