The National Parks Board does not seem to fully understand what the public wants ("Charged parking at parks to regulate usage, prevent abuse"; Thursday).
What we want is to have free parking when we go to parks around Singapore. This will really encourage family bonding, increase the frequency of social events and, thus, create a better Singapore to live in.
That should be the main objective.
As to how to prevent the system from being abused, one of the ways could be to implement a tiered fee structure, such as free parking from 5am to 9pm, with vehicles that continue to park after 9pm being charged a high fee.
The current solution adopted by NParks is too rigid, too simplistic and does not provide alternatives.
A good solution should, as far as possible, take into account all parties concerned.
