Google Maps for Android and iOS has received a large update, with the newest feature being the ability to call an Uber taxi.

Among tweaks to offline maps and navigation, users with the Uber app installed will now see an option to "Get an Uber" at the bottom of walking and public transit directions, along with how long the Uber taxi will take to get users to their destination.

When users click on the option, they will be sent directly into the Uber app. This is the first time Google has integrated a third-party app into its maps.

A venture capital investment arm of Google, Google Ventures backed Uber, investing US$258 million in a funding round last year. However, Google says that its investments are made independently of the main business.
