BERLIN - Following the launch of the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the announcement of the dual display Samsung Galaxy Note Edge curved screen smartphone, Korean tech giant Samsung also announced two new wearable technology peripherals at its annual Samsung Unpacked showcase in Berlin.

The Samsung Gear S is the third smartwatch in Samsung’s line of wearable watch devices, and it will finally come with its own SIM card slot and GPS sensor. This means that the new Gear S watch is capable of making phone calls and can also be used as an activity tracker on its own, without the need for it to be paired with a Samsung smartphone.

Featuring a 2-inch curved screen, the Gear S will be the second smartwatch powered by Samsung’s very own Tizen operating system. The Samsung Gear VR virtual reality headset is the company’s second foray into wearable technology. It is powered by Oculus, Facebook’s technology company spearheading the use of consumer virtual reality headsets.

Used with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Gear VR immerses users in a 3D environment, whether it is for video games, educational content or videos. Users connect the phone to the headset, and navigate using the touchpad panel, volume controls and Back button located on the right side of the unit.
