Popular messaging app Line opens its first pop-up store in Singapore

Line, a popular messaging and chat app with over 400 million registered users worldwide, opened its first pop-up store in Singapore at Wisma Atria's Grand Steps today. About 100 fans queued up 20 minutes before the 11am opening to be one of the first to get their hands on Line's official merchandise.

Launched in 2011, the multi-platform app, which offers free voice calls and group chats, is known for its original and cute virtual sticker characters. It quickly gained plenty of users in a short three years and is trailing behind the ubiquitous WhatsApp, which claims to be have more than 500 million users.

Cashing in on its popularity, the Line pop-up store will sell merchandise of its original characters, such as Brown, Cony and Moon. Prices of Line dolls, stickers, mugs and other accessories range from $2.50 to $65. Besides the Line merchandise on sale, fans can look forward to photo-taking opportunities with Brown and Cony character mascots. The mascots will be at the store from 1pm to 5pm every Saturday and Sunday.

Line pop-up stores have previously opened in cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta and Seoul to roaring success. The Singapore version will open till May 22 every day, from 11am to 10pm on Mondays to Thursdays and 10am to 10pm on Fridays to Sundays.
