Release of February inflation data

Singapore will report today the consumer price index for last month, with inflation expected to remain tame.

Singapore had its 15th straight month of negative inflation in January - the longest spell of sliding prices in almost four decades. The Monetary Authority of Singapore last month cut its inflation forecast for the year.

Mekong nations meet in China

Leaders of China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar will meet in the southern Chinese city of Sanya today for the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) summit. The Mekong River is known as Lancang in the Chinese stretch.

Like the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank launched this year, the LMC framework offers another opportunity for Beijing to extend its regional influence.

Remembering Mr Lee, one year on

Today marks the first anniversary of the passing of Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, and several events have been organised islandwide. From community planting in the heartland and a morning walk to trace his life and ideals, to prayer services by religious groups and a forum that discusses his enduring ideas, Singaporeans from all walks of life will gather to remember the man who spent his life building up modern Singapore.
