STI falls, together with other Asian bourses, on bleak news out of Europe

Share prices on the Singapore bourse fell with the benchmark Straits Times Index ending the day lower by 7.40 points or 0.2 per cent to 3,283.07.

The decline, in line with most Asian markets, was led by bleak growth figures from the eurozone in the final quarter of last year. Europe's stalwart economy, Germany, contracted a worse-than-expected 0.6 per cent.

Gainers outpaced losers 252 to 187 while 349 counters were unchanged. Turnover stood at 6.96 billion shares worth $1.67 billion.
