Singapore shares open higher despite selling elsewhere in the region

Singapore shares opened Thursday higher, as buying momentum in the last few days continued to sustain the local bourse.

The Straits Times Index was 11.6 points higher at 3,159.4 in early trading.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 95 to 61.

However, the market is grappling with global headwinds, with regional bourses in Sydney and Tokyo showing losses on worries over a worsening of the crisis in Ukraine.
