Singapore shares in modest rebound

Share prices on the Singapore bourse rose, with the benchmark Straits Times Index notching up modest gains to end the day up by 4.06 points or 0.13 per cent at 3,017.20.

The rise amidst a choppy trading day was in line with most Asian markets and led by a positive closing in Wall Street on Friday despite a weaker-than-expected jobs report in the United States.

Caution continues to reign as investor concerns persist, namely volatility in emerging markets, growth concerns in giant economies China and the US, and the Fed's tapering of its stimulus plan.

Losers outpaced gainers 236 to 165 while 382 counters were unchanged. Some 1.51 billion shares worth $836.7 million were traded.
