Seagate to build new $100 million R&D centre in Singapore

Seagate announced on Tuesday that it is building a new $100 million building in Ayer Rajah Crescent. The new facility will house all of Seagate's R&D activities in Singapore.

Called The Shugart after Seagate's founder Alan Shugart, it will be used by the company's mobile R&D storage team.

Seagates's 500 R&D engineers will move into the new building when it's completed in early 2015. They will focus on development of 2.5 inch thin and light drives for ultra notebooks and tablets.

The Shugart comprises of an interconnected nine-story and six-storey towers with three basement levels.
