New chairman for Maritime and Port Authority

SINGAPORE - Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's (MPA) outgoing chairman, Mr Lucien Wong, will relinquish his post on Dec 15, after more than seven years on the job.

He will be succeeded by MPA deputy chairman Mr Niam Chiang Meng the next day, a release issued by the Ministry of Transport stated on Monday.

Mr Wong, who joined the MPA board in 2007, was appointed chairman in 2009. Under his leadership, MPA has strengthened Singapore's position as a major hub port and international maritime centre, the release stated.

He will assume office as deputy attorney-general of Singapore on Dec 19, before taking over as attorney-general.

Mr Niam, who served the public sector for 33 years before retiring from administrative service in August 2016, has been deputy chairman of MPA since June, 2016. He is the recipient of Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1995 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2001, the release stated.
