This week, The Sunday Times meets Yeo Kee Yan, who is vice-president of equity research at DBS Bank. He is responsible for formulating the Singapore equity strategy, tactical ideas as well as managing the bank's top equity picks. The 52-year-old holds a bachelor's degree in engineering.

A I adopt a top-down approach for strategy. At the macro level, I look at indicators such as the global purchasing managers' indexes, fiscal and monetary policies, the US dollar against Asian currencies, treasury yields and oil price.

At the country level, I track the purchasing managers' index, the outlook of the US dollar against the Singdollar, stock market valuation and the Straits Times Index's (STI) technical outlook. Finally, at the sector level, my attention turns to valuation, relative performance and the impact of government policies.
