In my conversations with investors in the past few years, there were a number of them who told me they were worried about the stock markets and they thought a big crash was imminent.

As it turned out, they were wrong - the markets have actually performed very strongly over the past few years. As we have a finite number of years to accumulate sufficient funds for our retirement, the investors who stayed out missed a valuable opportunity to grow their nest eggs.
