Emerging Europe and Central Asia 'offer opportunities for Singapore companies'

Despite economic uncertainties in the European Union, emerging markets in Europe and Central Asia continue to offer opportunities for foreign investors.

Their developmental needs match those sectors in which Singapore companies are strong, such as infrastructure and urban planning, said president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sir Suma Chakrabarti on Monday.

Sir Suma, previously the permanent secretary at the British Ministry of Justice, was in Singapore for a business dialogue with 25 representatives from Singapore companies, organised by trade agency IE Singapore.

At the event, EBRD and IE Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding to help companies here identify opportunities in emerging European markets, particularly Russia and Turkey.
