SINGAPORE - The value of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) involving Singapore companies that were announced during the third quarter reached US$33.1 billion during the third quarter, new data released on Thursday (Sept 14) showed.

This was an 81.4 per cent jump from the second quarter, despite a 33.9 per cent drop in the number of announced deals, according to Thomson Reuters data, as of Thursday (Sept 14).

This bolstered overall Singapore M&A activity so far this year to US$62.5 billion, up 31.7 per cent compared with the first nine months of 2016, even as the number of deals declined 8.2 per cent.

This is the highest first nine months period for Singapore deal making activity in terms of value since 2014, said Thomson Reuters .
