SINGAPORE - Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) said on Monday that its president and chief executive officer, Tan Pheng Hock, is on medical leave of absence after suffering a mild stroke and being admitted to hospital for observation.

The duration of his medical leave could be about four weeks pending doctors' review of his condition and recommendations, company said in a filing with the Singapore Exchange.

"We understand he is making good progress in his recovery," it added.

In the interim, his executive duties and responsibilities are being covered by Lee Fook Sun, deputy CEO who will oversee the business functions, and Vincent Chong, deputy CEO (corporate development) who will continue to oversee corporate functions. Both deputy CEOs are supported by a team of senior and experienced management staff within the Group.

Mr Tan, who began his career in the group as an engineer in Singapore Technologies Marine (ST Marine) in 1981, has lead mainboard-listed ST Engineering since February 2002.
