Singapore stocks down 1.6%, Tokyo stocks drop 2.6% by break

TOKYO (AFP) - Tokyo shares tumbled 2.62 per cent by the break Tuesday, with markets in Asia tracking a slump on Wall Street and European markets as renewed Greek political woes fan fears over the eurozone.

The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 455.48 points to 16,953.23 in morning trade, while the Topix index of all first-section shares was down 2.36 per cent, or 33.10 points, at 1,367.99.

The Straits Times Index was down 52.28 points, or 1.57 per cent, at 3,276.00 at about 11am.

Stocks were down 1.08 per cent in Hong Kong, 0.72 per cent in Shanghai and 1.9 per cent in Sydney.
