Singapore shares up 0.04% to 3,325.5

Singapore - Local stocks had yet another tepid day of trade on Friday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) squeezing out slight gains, up 1.41 points, or 0.04 per cent to 3,325.50.

Just 1.59 billion shares worth a total value of $952.4 million exchanged hands.

Gainers outnumbered losers by a count of 229 to 188, while 375 stocks were unchanged.

Market participants likely stayed on the sidelines to await clearer direction from a keynote speech that United States Federal Reserve chairperson Janet Yellen is slated to give on Friday evening.

Technology and property firm Singapore eDevelopment was the top volume counter, with 151.2 million shares swopping hands. Its shares closed at 0.3 cents down by 0.3 cents.

For the week, the STI made a net gain of 11 points.

Elsewhere, Hong Kong rose 0.47 per cent, Shanghai was up by 0.46 per cent, Seoul added 0.61 per cent, Sydnet gained 0.12 per cent but Seoul lost 0.3 per cent
