Singapore shares head into the afternoon session in negative territory

Singapore shares opened lower on Thursday with the Straits Times Index down 9.56 points or 0.29 per cent to 3,339.21 before noon.

There were 122 losers compared with 194 gainers.

The top volume counter was Sheng Siong losing three cents to 68 cents on a volume of 163 million shares, after it announced plans for a share placement. The next most active was Elektromotive which was unchanged at one cent, on a volume of 84.1 million shares.

Some 882 million shares worth $508.9 million had exchanged hands by mid-morning.
