Market highlights

1 Gold traded at US$1,339 an ounce yesterday and is on track for its biggest annual gain since 2010, said Reuters.

2 As gold surged 25 per cent in the first six months this year, the SPDR Gold Shares exchange-traded fund (ETF) saw higher turnover. It is the fifth best-performing ETF, with a return of 1.4 per cent.

3 Cedar Strategic is proposing a rights issue of up to 5.8 billion shares at a price of 0.36 cent each. One rights share will be issued for every two existing shares.

4 Straits Trading net profit rose from $1.8 million to $6.6 million for the June quarter, with revenue up 8 per cent to $139.5 million as it entered Japan with three residential properties in central Osaka.

5 Infrastructure and engineering group Boustead Singapore's profit rose 11 per cent to $7 million. Revenue fell 3 per cent to $113.7 million for the quarter ended June 30.
