Market highlights

1 Gold miner CNMC has produced a record high of 9807.37 ounces of fine gold for the three months ended June 30, the highest production on record.The previous record was 8510.42 ounces, for the three months to Dec 31.


2 The London Stock Exchange Group asked its shareholders to back a US$27 billion (S$36 billion) merger with Deutsche Boerse on Monday, dismissing concerns of "shackling itself to a corpse" after Britain voted to leave the European Union.


3 Silver vaulted above US$21 for the first time in two years and gold advanced for a fourth day as investors sought precious metals as a haven after the United Kingdom's vote to leave the European Union.


4 The number of Spaniards registered as "without a job" fell to the lowest level since 2009 last month. The number of unemployment-benefits claimants fell by 124,349 from May to 3.77 million.


5 Food prices will stagnate over the next decade as the population growth rate declines, said the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations' Food & Agriculture Organisation.
