Local law firm streamlines management

WongPartnership, one of Singapore's Big Four law firms, has named Ms Rachel Eng, its former joint managing partner, as deputy chairman, alongside current deputy chairman Tan Chee Meng.

"We have streamlined our firm's management structure with effect from March 1," the company said in a statement yesterday.

Ms Eng and Mr Tan, a senior counsel, will "continue to play a key role in helping Alvin (Yeo) and (Ng) Wai King to build and maintain the external image and relationships of the firm", it added.

Ms Eng is now one of two deputy chairmen of WongPartnership.

Ms Eng, who also sits on the boards of StarHub and SPH Reit, handles the capital markets practice, which advises issuers and underwriters on public and private placements, including primary and secondary listings on the Singapore Exchange, as well as IPOs of Reits and business trusts. She also handles corporate governance and compliance and the practices in China, India and Myanmar.

Mr Ng Wai King, who heads the firm's corporate group, is now the sole managing partner and will be responsible for daily management of the firm. He also handles the private equity practice, which advises on all aspects of private equity and venture capital fund transactions, as well as its Asean practice.

Mr Yeo, a senior counsel, continues in his role as chairman of the practice and senior partner, and chairs the executive committee of the firm. Both Mr Tan and Mr Yeo handle banking and financial disputes, commercial and corporate disputes and international arbitration.
