Citi appoints Fabio Fontainha Asean head of consumer banking

SINGAPORE - Fabio Fontainha has been appointed the head of Citi's Asean consumer banking, the company announced on Thursday (Nov 24).

Consumer Banking heads in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam will report to Mr Fontainha, who will be based in Singapore.

Mr Fontainha joined Citi in 1994 as a management associate in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has held a number of senior roles, including head of consumer banking in Malaysia, head of sales & distribution and consumer investments in Japan and in international personal banking for Latin America. He will report to Mr Anand Selva, head of Asia-Pacific consumer banking.

Citi has approximately 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions.

In the last year, Citi has announced regional digital partnerships across Asean with the likes of Grab, Lazada and Airbnb. The bank also rolled out Voice Biometrics Authentication for clients across Asean and has launched Global Mobile, its refreshed mobile banking app in markets across the region.
