Britain 10-year gilt yields rise to highest since July 2011

LONDON (REUTERS) - British 10-year government bond yields rose to their highest level since July 2011 when 2014 trading started on Thursday, continuing a trend seen in the final days of 2013.

Ten-year gilt yields hit 3.092 per cent at 0810 GMT, up 6 basis points from Dec 31 as prices fell, above Dec 27's peak of 3.083 per cent.

Yields on 10-year German bond prices also fell, but the drop in gilt prices was sharper, and the spread between 10-year gilt and Bund yields briefly widened as far as 112.7 basis points, just shy of a multi-year peak above 113 basis points struck on Dec 27.
