WASHINGTON (AFP) - United States President Barack Obama marked his 51st birthday Saturday with a round of golf, and a volley of mockery from his Republican foes as November's election looms.

Mr Obama, born on Aug 4, 1961, in Hawaii, toured the links at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, and then was due to head to the presidential retreat in Camp David, Maryland.

The Republican National Committee offered supporters the chance to send a mocking online birthday card to Obama, taking shots at the president's foreign policy and past remarks.

"Here's to four more years of you telling people I'm not a threat" said the text of one card, superimposed over a picture of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
