NEW YORK (AFP) - A drunk driver who killed a young couple on their way to a hospital to give birth - and whose baby died the next day - was indicted on Wednesday for fleeing the scene, a prosecutor said.
Julio Acevedo was driving a BMW when he slammed into a livery cab taking Nathan Glauber and his wife Raizi, who was seven months pregnant, to the hospital just after midnight on March 3.
The Glaubers, who were 21, were both killed. Doctors performed an emergency Cesarian section on Raizi Glauber to save her unborn son's life, but he died the next day.
"Based on Acevedo's prior criminal record, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years-to-life in prison," said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hyman.
