German visitor bitten by shark is on life support
HONOLULU (AP) - A German visitor who lost her arm in a shark attack while snorkeling off Maui was on life support, a hospital spokesman said, a day after a Big Island surfer suffered leg injuries in Hawaii's second shark attack in less than a week.
Ms Jana Lutteropp was in very critical condition, Maui Memorial Medical Center spokesman Carol Clark said on Monday.
Ms Lutteropp's family requested that people respect their privacy during this difficult time, Ms Clark said.
Ms Lutteropp, 20, was snorkeling up to 90m off Palauea Beach in Makena on Wednesday afternoon when the shark bit off her right arm.
