Former president George W. Bush undergoes surgery to open blocked artery
DALLAS (AP) - Former US President George W. Bush has successfully undergone a heart procedure after doctors discovered a blockage in an artery.
Mr Bush's spokesman Freddy Ford said a stent was inserted during a procedure on Tuesday in Texas. The blockage was discovered on Monday during Mr Bush's annual physical examination.
The blockage was opened with no complications and the 67-year-old is expected to be discharged on Wednesday, according to the spokesman.
Mr Ford described the former president as being "in high spirits" and eager to return home. He plans to resume his normal schedule on Thursday.
