LONDON (AFP) - A former Church of England bishop is to be charged with sexually abusing a boy and a young man between 1978 and 1982, British prosecutors announced on Thursday.

Peter Ball, 82, allegedly "misused his position and authority to manipulate and prevail upon others for his own sexual gratification", the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

Ball will appear in court on April 10 charged with indecent assault on a boy aged 12 or 13 in 1978, and indecent assault on a man aged 19 or 20 between 1980 and 1982.

He is also charged with misconduct in public office between 1977 and 1992.
