Crimea airport operating normally despite reports of armed men seizing it overnight
SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine (AFP) - The airport in Crimea's capital Simferopol was operating normally on Friday, an AFP journalist at the scene said, despite an earlier report that it had been seized overnight by armed assailants.
Passengers had normal access to the airport, on Ukraine's Black Sea coast, and were checking in for flights, the journalist reported.
However a dozen unidentified armed men could be seen outside the airport perimetre. They did not respond to questions about where they were from.
The airport's information service told AFP by phone that the airport was "working as normal".
