Clinton arrives in Australia for defence meetings
PERTH (AP) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Australia's western city of Perth before a summit about deepening defence links between Canberra and Washington.
U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta is scheduled to arrive later on Tuesday before they meet on Wednesday with Defence Minister Stephen Smith and Foreign Minister Bob Carr.
The American leaders will also meet with Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Tuesday.
The annual summit is the first since U.S. President Barack Obama visited Australia a year ago, a trip which riled China, Australia's biggest trade partner. During the trip, he announced that up to 2,500 U.S. Marines would rotate through a joint military training hub in the northern city of Darwin.
