OTTAWA (AFP) - A Canadian judge jailed a tardy juror for delaying a rape trial this week, media reported on Thursday.
Fed up with her dawdling, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Gerald Chartier reportedly discharged the woman known only as "Juror 10" and issued a warrant for her arrest on Wednesday, while the trial continued without her.
The woman arrived later in the day and was arrested. She spent an afternoon in jail before being marched into the courtroom, handcuffed and shackled, after 11 other jurists rendered a verdict in the sexual assault trial.
Juror 10 explained that she had slept late after being up all night with a fever, severe cramps and vomiting, according to the daily Winnipeg Free Press.
