WASHINGTON (AFP) - United States authorities said on Tuesday they arrested a man at a screening of the latest Batman movie with a bag full of weapons in a case that evoked a recent rampage in Colorado that claimed a dozen lives.

Police in Westlake, Ohio, said an off-duty officer arrested Scott Smith, 37, late on Saturday at a local cinema after he was found to be carrying a bag with a loaded Glock pistol, two extra fully-loaded magazines and three knives.

He was also in possession of another knife, police said in a statement.

Smith was the only person in the theatre at the time.
