America's 'Jihad Jane' jailed for 10 years
WASHINGTON (AFP) - An American woman nicknamed "Jihad Jane" was jailed for 10 years on Monday after plotting to carry out deadly attacks in Europe and South Asia including the murder of a Swedish cartoonist, United States justice officials said.
Pennsylvania woman Colleen LaRose, 50, a convert to Islam, had already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements and attempted identity theft.
"This case clearly underscores the evolving nature of the terrorist threat we now face in this country," said Mr Zane David Memeger, United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
"The Internet has made it easier for those who want to attack the American way of life to identify like-minded individuals to carry out their terroristic plans."
