MOSCOW - One in five Russian women are willing to marry President Vladimir Putin, according to a poll published on Friday.
Six per cent of respondents said they would definitely marry Mr Putin, who turns 60 on Sunday, while 14 per cent said they would probably like to wed him, Bloomberg reported, citing the poll results by the Moscow-based Levada Centre.
Mr Putin has been the subject of female adulation campaigns over the years. Two years ago, Moscow State University journalism students posed in lingerie for a calendar congratulating him on his 58th birthday. The calendar featured photos of his fans with captions such as "You put out the forest fires, but I'm still burning," In 2002, a Russian girl band recorded a song, "I want a man like Putin", Bloomberg reported.
Mr Putin, however, is already married. He wed Lyudmila Shkrebnyova, a former flight attendant in 1983, and they have two daughters, Maria and Katerina.
